Biography
Dr. Pilhan Kim is a Professor at the Graduate School of Medical Science and Engineering (GSMSE) at KAIST, Daejeon, Korea. He received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Seoul National University, Korea, in 2000 and 2005, respectively. From 2005 to 2010, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA. In 2010, he joined KAIST as a tenure-track Assistant Professor and was promoted to Full Professor in 2022.
His main research interest is the development of advanced in vivo cellular imaging technologies, particularly real-time laser-scanning intravital confocal and two-photon microscopy. Using these systems, his group has achieved cellular-level visualization in various live animal models, allowing for the investigation of complex pathophysiology in human diseases and the development of novel therapeutics. Dr. Kim has published over 110 journal papers and filed more than 50 patents. He also serves as the CEO of IVIM Technology, Inc., which focuses on commercializing intravital microscopy solutions.
